From the free first chapter
Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work. For years she has interviewed thousands of people about shame, fear, courage and human connection, looking for patterns in their stories. The Gifts of Imperfection came out in 2010, and the same year her TEDxHouston talk, "The Power of Vulnerability", spread around the world.
In her research, Brown identified a group of people she calls Wholehearted: people who live with their whole heart. Their lives aren't perfect either; they have their share of mistakes and pain. Yet deep down they believe: I am worthy of love and belonging just as I am.
